GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active research institute, funded by federal and state governments and member of the Leibniz Association.

Starting on June 1st , 2023, the Department Survey Design ： Methodology (SDM), located in Mannheim, is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantitative Social Sciences (full time, temporary until 31.01.2026) in our DFG-funded "PubBias" project.

Publication bias refers to a mechanism by which the (non -) publication of research results depends on its direction or intensity. For example, statistically significant results can be shown to be more likely to be published than non-statistically significant results. Therefore, publication bias impedes the assessment of the true state of knowledge about a particular research issue, which may lead to scientific debates and policy decisions based on biased or even incorrect results. For our research project funded by the German Science Foundation in collaboration with the SHARE Berlin Institute (SHARE is the largest pan-european social science team to provide internationally comparable longitudinal microdata) and Northwestern University in the United States, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will investigate the publication bias of the German social sciences in more detail based on material submitted to the GESIS team.

Your tasks will be:

1. Research items, analyses, and publications were coded and evaluated using GESIS panel data in close coordination with the German socio-economic expert group innovation sample (SOEP IS) .

2. The results were replicated using the GESIS panel and the Innovation Sample (SOEP IS) of the German socio-economic expert group

3. The planning, implementation and evaluation of the author's investigation.

4.Coordinate and work closely with project partners, namely the SHARE Berlin Institute and Northwestern University in the United States.

5.Presentation and publication of project results.

1. A doctorate in social science or a related discipline, such as politics, sociology, or psychology.

2. Good knowledge of social science methods and statistics, especially analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal survey data.

3. Good English in listening, speaking, reading and writing, at least intermediate German level.

4.Attention to detail, organized, interested in scientific theory.

5.Experience in systematic reviews is a plus.
