DAY 22 Task 2 教育
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: students should not be allowed to use calculators in class or in math tests.
【Response】
I disagree with the statement. Our society relies more and more on technology in our daily lives. Almost everyone now carries a smartphone which doubles as a scientific calculator, and can work out complex sums without having to rely on pen and paper. Therefore, students should be able to practice with calculator strategies as much as possible. Even if students pursue a career that uses advanced math, like engineering, it is most likely that this will mostly use calculators and computer calculations, since you wouldn’t want to build a bridge with potential human errors from pen and paper calculations. As there is only a limited amount of time in the classroom, surely this is better spent prioritizing more useful and practical skills.
