Sometimes people wish to be more confident, for example, they may want to

express their opinions more frequently in meetings at work, or they may want to

contribute more to class discussions at school.

Which ONE of the following actions do you think would best help to increase

confidence in these types of work or school situations? Why?

-Spending more time preparing for class discussions at school or meetings

at work

-Learning about and practicing techniques to help you become more

confident

-Finding a more experienced person who can give advice about how to handle

these situations

1、To be a confident speaker who can articulate his thoughts in business

meetings or in-class discussions, the best method is to hone the skills that can

add some confidence. It is admitted that a meticulous preparation and valuable

advice from professors may also instill confidence in speakers, skills aiming to

build up confidence are however the cornerstone of them. [开头段不妨开门见山表明观点,

to people’ silence, a typical sign of lacking confidence, in classroom

discussions; and likewise, self-repetitions or vague opinions during business

meetings are common in people without confidence. In this case, a thorough

preparation helps them gain insights into classroom discussions and polish up

the drafts of the business reports, and this seems to be able to build up their

However, can an adequate preparation single-handedly make a confident speaker?

In fact, unless equipped with sound speaking skills, a speaker with

well-prepared drafts cannot deliver them in a lucid manner, let alone displaying

other words, after preparing carefully, a speaker need to learn and practice

some body language that showcase his confidence. It does not take a leap of

imagination to picture how confident would a man look if he maintains eye

comments and feedback from others. Hence, to increase confidence, one should

practice relevant techniques in the first place.

3、It would be redundant to emphasize the importance of consulting experienced

advice may not necessarily prove relevant. To be more specific, it is well known

that theoretically sound advice may not work in practice, meaning that merely

listening to suggestions from the experienced can hardly make a difference in

one’s confidence. Instead, their suggestions should be integrated with the

practice of techniques that help one become confident in business or classroom
