Why they gave you the surprise
And explain how you felt about it.
An editor from my favourite newspaper, South Weekend, called me that they would publish my article. It’s one of the best surprises that ever happened to me. It was 3 years ago when I was still at college and I literally went into complete ecstasy for a whole day.
I had always had a thing for printed stuff on paper since I was a little child. Since I went to high school, my father would brought home a copy of South Weekly every Friday, and without noticing it, I was used to that paper. It was like an all-round teacher and old friend, talking to me about the way the world went and I should do things. I enjoyed the column of current affair comments most and always dream about my name would show in print on it one day. Desire went before the actions and I began to write some stuff too. They were silly and boring mostly, but I did have some eureka moments and, in my biased point of view, produced something worth reading more than once.

It would be a terrible waste if I didn’t share it with more people, right? So I sent my articles to many newspaper except South Weekend. Why anyone but South Weekend? It’s like every random girl and your goddess that you admire too much and dread the refusal. There was never any response in one month’s wait. I began feeling depressed at that time, and I doubted about my ability to write. But still I longed for some kind of miracle, so finally I send my article to my favourite one. The new round of wait was a torture to me. Just as I was about to admit my writer dream went sour, I got an phone call from Gangzhou one morning. To my biggest surprise, it was a guy from the magazine! And he told me they’ve decided to post your article in next issue. I cried out right on the spot and I was too happy to listen carefully to him.
Anyway, I still bought many copies of that issue with my name on it and sent them to all people I knew. A bit crazy, I know, but that’s worth it.
