Task:
There are more new towns nowadays and it is more important to include public
parks and sports facilities than shopping centers for individuals to spend their
free time. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample answer:
When it comes to the issue about how to arrange the layout of new cities or
towns, some people argue that public parks and sport facilities for recreation
deserve more attention from the authorities, but I approve of the idea that
shopping malls may be more beneficial for citizens and cities as well.
Admittedly, those public facilities could provide citizens with a place for
relaxation through simply walking and doing exercise . More often than not,

there are more plants in a park and such a circumstance could help people calm
down when they are exhausted after work. Also, sport facilities enable tired
employees to refresh them again after participating in some sports, such as
playing basketball or badminton. Through these facilities, people could maintain
their health physically and mentally. Nevertheless, there may exist more reasons
for supporting shopping centers.
Initially, purchasing goods in a shopping center also serves to delight
citizens. Different individuals have various ways of releasing pressure and
shopping could be a choice for many people. If there exist some grand shopping
malls in the downtown, the joy of acquiring some qualified products could

contribute to making people delightful. Thus, governments should fill their
cities with some shopping malls for people who like shopping.
Furthermore, cities could also receive more economic benefits if shopping
malls gain a priority rather than public facilities. It is acknowledged that
many popular brands choose some qualified shopping malls as a place for
retailer. If the government is potent to establish some malls with a high
quality, citizens are likely to purchase more advanced items, or even luxury
items, in a shopping mall, which could be seen as a win-win situation since not
only citizens get what they want but also the economy of cities could be boosted
with increasingly more businesses.
Thus, compared to public facilities, building shopping malls should be at the
top of governments’ agenda, considering the recreational function for citizens
and the potential economic catalyst role those malls could play.
