In some people's minds, receiving higher education is the privilege of the

elite, but in recent years the enrollment of universities keeps rising. This

trend is exciting, although some people argue that it may lead to high

unemployment.

There is a wide recognition that the goal of higher education is to cultivate

useful members for the society. In an era where knowledge and technology have

become the major force that drives the economy, well-educated people can better

serve the society. They tend to get promoted to higher positions, take more

responsibilities and make greater contributions. A good example of this is that

most high-level personnel hold higher academic qualification in both government

departments and business organizations.

However, some people are concerned that the large number of university

graduates may drive up the unemployment*rate. The main reason is that higher

education tends to focus on teaching theoretical knowledge that be useless,

which may put university graduates in a disadvantageous position the job

market. There are many facts to support this viewpoint, In Chin@, the

unemployment rate among university graduates stays at a high level in recent years
