Task：

It is known to all that the technological and scientific advances have made greater changes to the range and quality of our food. Some people regard it as an improvement while others believe that the change is harmful. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

随着科学技术的进步，食品的种类，质量都有了提高。有人认为这种现象是好的，也有人觉得这样是有害的。讨论双方观点，并给出你的意见。

Sample answer：

Our diet is experiencing significant changes, with a wider range of food

served on the dining table. This is, to a large extent, due to the fast

development of food production and processing technologies. However, people have

conflicting views on these changes.

According to those optimists, the quantity and quality of food have both

increased greatly, which means we can have more food to feed the growing

population and enjoy some new varieties of food that we never try before. For

example, some new types of plants are cultivated and then become delicious

dishes on people's dining table. Fresh produce can be made into canned foods and

preserved foods which have diversified flavors with various additives added into

them.

However some people are concerned that the change of food may pose a risk to

people's health and lead to unexpected consequences. The additives and

preservatives used in food tend to contain a variety of chemical substances that

can be harmful to people's health, particularly when the amount of usage exceeds

the standard. Another example people frequently talk about is genetically

modified food. The transgenic beans and tomatoes may look and taste better but

their potential risks to people's health have not yet been identified.

In my opinion,it is a positive trend that we are enjoying a wider range of

food due to the advance of technology. This trend has enriched people's diet and

relieve the food shortage faced by the mankind. It is also important to do

researches to find out whether these newly-developed foods are safe for people

and I believe the solution to this problem lies in the further development of

modern technology.
