Task: In the past, people used to live in the same place in their life. However,

it is common that now people change their place where they live several times

during their life. What are the reasons for this change? Is this a positive or

negative development?

Today’s is a marvelously mobile world in which everybody seems to be forever

on the way. A man working in a small city of the U.S. now may move to London

next year. Then why people do not stay on in the same place, as they did before,

butmigrate from place to place instead?

The frequent migration results, in the first place, from the fact that people

today often change their jobs. The emergence of new technologies brings about

many jobs that people can perform without having to go through many years of

training, which makes it possible for people to switch their jobs halfway in

their career. But even when people are doing the same kind of job, they may also

move from one city to another, perhaps for a higher pay, or family reunion and

many other reasons. Besides, many people keep moving simply because they want to

experience the different cultures and customs. According to them, living in

India offers a totally different experience than living in Japan, and life, in

their definition, would be intolerably boring without these personal

experiences. Finally, some people are forced to move even though they do not

want to. With the urbanization going on, for instance, quite many people have to

leave their home because it is no longer a place suitable to them.

Moving to a new place is never easy because it means you will lose all of

your former neighbors, friends and other social networking, and you will have

customs. The good thing is that, moving to new places, people may experience

brand-new lifestyles and ways of thinking, thus are able to enjoy a fuller life.

To the society as a whole, migration is also a good idea because it helps people
