Task：Some people believe that children should listen to what they parents

tell them to do. Some other people believe that children should listen more to

themselves.Discuss two views and give your opinion.

Sample answer：

Some people hold the opinion that children should obey parents’ order while

others believe children should follow their own hearts when making decisions. In

my perspective, young people will benefit more when they make independent

decisions.

Behaving according to parents’ words does bring some convenience. This is

based on the fact that parents have already gone through multiple challenging

tasks and they accumulate experience in this process. So if children take advice

from their parents, there will be more chances to solve problems promptly and

perfectly. In the short term, it seems both convenient and productive. However,

the parenting should never be so near-sighted.

The truth is that only through making decisions by oneself, can someone

develop into well-adjusted individual, especially for young people. This is to

say, in the process of making decisions by oneself, one can develop a range of

skills, such as analytical skills and critical thinking skills, all of which

will increase their independence and at the same time give them a sense of

achievement. By contrast, if some authoritarian parents always ask children to

follow their order, it will reduce children’s decision-making ability and in

future when children encounter some tough tasks, they will feel confused and

flustered.

In conclusion, although children may encounter some drawbacks if they make

decisions independently, it will be beneficial for them in the long term.
