How the government’s money should be reasonably invested has always been

heatedly debated among the public. Some are in favor of providing funds for

arts, whereas others support the money to be spent on public health and

education. As to me, it is hard to make a choice because both views are rational

to some extent.

Admittedly, the art fields do need government’s support. First, art fulfills

a valuable function in enriching people’s spiritual lives. Entertained by the

different art forms, people may feel relaxed and get refreshed, and by learning

art, individuals have excellent opportunities to develop their sense of

creativity, helping them make greater contributions and have greater

achievements. Second, with the government’ investment in art, a better social

atmosphere can be established, and the national culture can be better inherited.

In this sense, ignorance of the importance of art may result in a huge price for

the society to pay for

However, education and health care of the public also require the funding

from the government. To start with, the revenue of the government mainly comes

from the public in the form of taxes, which means, the public, in various

occasions, have the right to enjoy a better service, with health care and

education being just two of the basic ones. Also, with more money being invested

in these fields, people will be healthier and better educated, and thus their

productivity can be improved, contributing to a more promising development of

the country and society. In addition, by investing in health and education, the

social stability can be ensured due to the reduction in crimes and the narrowing

of the gap between the rich and the poor, the image of the government can be

maintained because of the loyalty of the public, and then a sustainable

development of the country can be expected.

To sum up, the government not only needs to invest in the field of art, but

also in health and education of the public. Only with more care being paid on

the welfare of the public, can the government win over the support of its people
