The issue of whether to follow traditional culture is a multifaceted and

sensitive one facing the development of technology.It is difficult to say who

has the right to judge whether tradition or sticking to modern culture is more

appropriate.

Modern ideology pays attention to the acquisition of individual wealth.In

other words,people nowadays are more likely to make every endeavor to acquire

knowledge and cultivate their work capability to find a niche in today's

competitive society for otherwise they would get marginalized.This means that

aggressiveness and selfishness would also be generated from this as people in all

likelihood are too obsessed with money without consideration of others

especially their family.It is an unfortunate fact that an increasing number of

young adults are now choosing to work or further study far away from their

hometowns.There are environmental issues to be considered as well.Advancing

manufacturing ability and improving living standard lead to massive consumption

of products,people are also swung by advertisers to purchase excessive items

such as household appliance.

In this respect,traditional cultures are probably necessary to solve these

negative effects.Values passed down from the old ages,on the other hand,highly

focuses on the balance between individuals and surroundings such as natural

environment and social circle.It was certainly the case in the past that local

people lived harmoniously with their neighbors without worrying about being

invaded not locking up tightly their doors at night.They show respect to each

other and there are less lucrative relations among people because they live a

tranquil ways of life rather than today's business world.Traditional culture

also deems family a paramount part of people's lives.Family cohesion results

from this can positively contribute to the well-being of family members as they

can gain a sense of belonging to a group.It is also a common situation that

people living in the past tend to cherish their belongings by repairing and using

it again and thus very much help the reduction of natural resource waste.

I therefore believe that modern culture which is not necessarily always

conducive should be upheld together with traditions because we can learn lessons

from it and improve our modern way of life.
