Task:Some people think that tourists can learn very much about a place they
are visiting on holiday while others think they cannot. Describe both these
views and give your own opinion.
Sample Answer:
In recent years, traveling is a preferable choice for folks who desire to
escape from the tedious daily routines and eager to experience something
refreshing and enlightening. It is believed by some people that visitor sare
able to learn much about their destinations while others hold the opposite
idea.
On one hand, it is admitted that tourists can have a deep understanding of
local history especially when paying a visitto ancient cities with precious
historical sites and relics. For instance, Xi’an, as the capital of many
dynasties in ancient China, where the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Daming Palaceare
located is a vivid history book recording the notable achievements and splend or
architecture of Qing and Tang dynasty. In addition, if traveling outside the
national boundary, travelers have the chance to experience exotic and appealing
cultural customs. In Japan, people prefer to wear kimono (an item of traditional
Japanese clothing) to attend wedding or formal ceremonies. Also, as soon as the
sakura (cherry blossom) are in full bloom, Japanese people would have a picnic
with friends or families under the sakura trees, chatting and drinking.
On the other hand, it is understandable that nothing about the visiting place
can be learnt. Supposed that taking a vacation in an island resort, all tourists

can do is to lie on the beach, swim in the sea, view the sunrise or sunset and
enjoy a spa after a day’s sun bath. Having a good relax of their minds and
bodies are the first priorities. Besides, for some people, joinery is a time
when they could just appreciate attractive scenery and grand beauty of nature as
well as taste gourmet cuisines rather than aggravating the burden on brains.
In conclusion, as far as I am concerned, the aims of traveling vary with each
individual, which determines whether people could understand the local history
and traditions or not. Anyway, travel provides an unparalleled opportunity to
explore the world and human inner heart.
